Taking a chance — for Pita

I’ve worked in animal welfare for nearly three decades now, and one of the reasons I love working for Cat Town is that we take chances. Often, this means a cat who wouldn’t have been saved otherwise can get the support they need. That was certainly the case for Pita! Pita was living in a feral colony in July before arriving at the Oakland Animal Services city shelter. She hid in a tiny “feral box” inside her shelter cage, and was…

November 2020 Adoptions

With 24 happy adoptions in November, we’re only 18 cats away from crossing over to 300 adoptions in 2020! The number of adoptions we’ve had this year has been one bright spot for us here at Cat Town, so we hope that by letting you know about it, we can make you smile. These aren’t just any adoptions, either! They’re bonded pairs, cats who recovered from ringworm in our care, black cats, senior cats…

Seeing is Believing!

When I think of Cat Town, I think of life-changing transformations, like the one we saw with Farallon just a few weeks ago. Farallon arrived at the city shelter in a terrible state. Gerrie's Happily Ever After

Cat Town could not help cats without people like you, so today, in thanks, we’re telling you about a senior cat you helped: Gerrie. Gerrie is 12 years old, walks with a limp, and has trouble getting around. He also needs a special diet and medication to help with his kidney function and arthritis, and has a history of night-yowling and missing his litter box. That might seem like a lot for one cat, but we…

Artist Profile: Ekke!

The colorful murals at Cat Town don’t just paint themselves — but the speed and talent with which Michelle Chen (aka Ekke!) created our alien cat mural made it feel as though it might have sprung to life on its own, fully formed. The vibrant colors make our Adoption Center a joyous space for guests and adopters alike — and the funds raised by the donations it has generated has helped us save more shelter cats.

October 2020 Adoptions

They say that good things come in threes, but in this case our wonderful tabbies came in a huge wave of 17 cats for the month of October! Not only was this a fun challenge for our staff and volunteers — who deftly differentiated each cat by subtle coat variations, ear tips, nose and eye color, or simply their different personalities — it meant lots of striped and swirled cats got out of the shelter and into loving homes. Of course we had tuxedos, calicos, and black cats as well. Thanks to your support, whether these cats were in bonded pairs, seniors…
