Cat Town has already provided tremendous opportunities for at-risk cats at Oakland Animal Services. When cats are comfortable, adopters can see them at their very best.
— Shelly Thompson, Director of Grants at Maddie's Fund

By focusing our support on the cats who are most likely to be euthanized, Cat Town has helped reduce the euthanasia rate for Oakland’s shelter cats by more than 70%. In 2023, 87¢ from every dollar raised went directly toward our lifesaving programs. Here’s exactly how we put your donations to work.

LiFesaving Statistics

Cat Town takes on the most challenging cases from the shelter, helping cats who appear “un-adoptable” find homes. Our lifesaving statistics speak for themselves. We calculate this by taking the cats with a live outcome divided by the total number of outcomes in the same year, excluding owner-surrenders where the owner intended euthanasia.

Adoption Statistics

Cat Town is a proud contributor to the Shelter Animals Count National Database. By sharing our adoption statistics for Oakland’s hardest-to-place cats, we hope to inspire life-saving collaboration and have a positive impact over pet homelessness over time.
