About the Adoption Center

Cat Town is home to the nation’s first cat cafe — a cage-free adoption center created to support cats who struggle to get adopted from a shelter cage. The Cat Town Adoption Center, located at 2869 Broadway in Oakland, California, typically houses between 25 to 35 adoptable cats. Half roam freely, while cats in need of one-on-one socialization or more advanced medical attention stay in private Studios.

To support our lifesaving work, an entry fee of $12 is required for all recreational visits. Walk-in reservations are welcome as space permits, and can be made in-person, however we strongly recommend making your online reservation ahead of time as we typically book completely up on weekends, leaving no extra space for walk-in guests. If our reservation system shows no availability, we are booked out for that hour. You can find our hours here.

If you are interested in adopting, please complete our Adoption Inquiry form to request a free adoption appointment, so we can guarantee that we’ll have someone available to help you when you visit.

RECREATIONAL HOURS

Thursday - Sunday: 10am - 5pm
Monday - Wednesday: Closed, except by appointment for adopters

OUR ADOPTION CENTER CATS

The cats at the Cat Town Adoption Center represent a full spectrum of personalities, ranging from confident to shy. Some will sit right in your lap, but many of our cats arrive having had little experience with humans, or are still scared from being in a shelter cage. These shy cats learn from our more confident cats, and when you visit, your presence will help teach them about trust, and build the confidence they need to get adopted.

Note that not every cat at Cat Town is currently ready to be adopted, so please review our Adopt page to learn more about our current adoption process for cats in foster homes and cats in our Adoption Center.

UP-AND-COMING CATS

These cats are not yet ready for adoption — they might be building confidence or recovering from injury or illness. Some of these cats may not be ready to be visited by guests, but will be in the coming weeks.
