Helping Manicotti Find His Footing

I’m telling you about my very favorite adoption of 2020, because from now to December 31, your donations will be doubled, up to $5,000, to make more stories like this possible.

Manicotti was dumped at the city shelter’s parking lot and left there, in a carrier, overnight — so we didn’t have any history on him. He spent all of his time in his cage hiding, and would growl and lash out when anyone came near. It was my job to figure out if he was actually feral, or just really angry.

It could have gone either way, but over time, as I visited “Manny,” he seemed more terrified than feral. He liked baby talk and slow blinks. Eventually, he leaned into the back scratcher and ate treats. That’s when I knew that there was a nice cat in there, deep inside all the mistrust.

We brought him to Cat Town, where we could continue working with him, and told him everything would be okay. He hid for a long time, but then one day he decided to leave his carrier and rub his head on my leg. That was it! There was Manicotti! He finally started to trust humans!

After that, Manny made incredible progress. He relished in the beauty of human kindness, and LOVED sitting on laps for as long as you’d let him. Manny was a loving and incredibly loyal companion. The best part? After a few weeks, Manicotti got adopted by a kind, compassionate, and sincere person who appreciates all he’s been through, and who instinctively knew exactly what he needed. He’s made their lap his new home base, and he sleeps underneath the bed at night, snoring gently.

Cat Town had the resources to help Manicotti because of donations — which means that the credit for Manicotti’s transformation belongs to you as well. Now through December 31 — tomorrow — is the last chance to double your donation to Cat Town, and give more cats like Manny the support they need. I hope you’ll make one last donation this year to give every cat like him their best chance at finding a home.
