Who Did You Save This Year? (Part 1)

There are only so many hours in a day, so sometimes we aren’t able to share all of the incredible stories you’ve helped make possible. Today, our team is looking back at a few of our favorite adoptions — because we are so grateful that we can spend our days giving these cats a second chance at being seen, adopted, and loved, thanks to your support.

Quinn’s Pick: Oscar and Owen
Adopted in April

“I have a soft spot for black cats, and love a good transformation — Oscar and Owen just ticked all my boxes. When these boys first came to Cat Town as Forgotten Kittens, volunteers took bets on how long it would be before we could touch them. They were super hissy, and so scary (at first) that someone nicknamed them the Demon Brothers. It took 6 weeks before a volunteer could pet one of them, but after that, they had milestone after milestone as their trust developed. Owen was braver than Oscar, but both brothers stuck together. They got adopted by a really patient couple, and after a few months in their new home, they sent us footage of Oscar and Owen (cautiously) rubbing against their legs! I love that these boys found exactly the right people. That kind of patience is a special gift, and it gives me hope that there will always be someone willing to do what it takes to bring more love into the world.”

Andrew’s Pick: SunnY, Brady & Belle, And Beau
Adopted IN August, SeptembeR, And March

“These cats are special for me because I was there for the start of their rescue story. I got a call from a security guard at a commercial property who was worried about some cats living in a trash heap where some construction was planned. I went over to check it out and ended up trapping Sunny and her three kittens. I took them to the city shelter, but the kittens were quite shy (classic Cat Town forgotten kittens!) and Sunny had some complicated medical issues with her rear legs. Cat Town placed them into foster care and applied our secret formula of Love + Time = Magic. With just a few months of socialization for the kittens, and some medical investigation for Sunny, all four cats found great homes.”

Dawn’s Pick: Bubba
Adopted IN April

“Bubba is permanently engraved in my heart. When I first saw him at the shelter he was angry, hissing, and frozen. I noticed he had scars on both his eyes, but his vision was still fine. From his behavior, I thought he was feral at first, but then I learned he had experienced unbearable abuse at the hands of some neighborhood kids. I made it my mission to teach Bubba to trust humans again. Even if he was a feral cat, I was going to teach him that not all humans are abusive or mean.

I worked with Bubba for 6 weeks at OAS before seeing a glimmer of a sweet and friendly cat. That’s when I knew he wasn’t feral, and that Cat Town could help him. We brought Bubba into our program, and continued to work with him. Bubba blossomed over the next couple of months. He was, underneath it all, a drooly, snuggly lap cat! The day we deemed him ready for adoption, he melted the hearts of a young couple looking for their very first cat. From that day on, Bubba has slept on the bed between them.

It’s hard when cats like Bubba arrive at the shelter, but knowing that we can help them be so happy makes what I do every day the most rewarding job I could ask for.”
