May 2021 Adoptions

Each time we say goodbye to a Cat Town cat, we get to witness the start of a new friendship. In May, we saw scores of young cats find homes — including 9 scared Forgotten Kittens like Sinope, Bergamot, and Forest whose adopters knew they’d need extra time in their new surroundings to feel safe. We coincidentally saw 9 sets of bonded pairs go home together, where they quickly helped each other settle into new routines.

Thank you for helping these budding friendships grow in our community. You make it possible for us to spread this happiness by supporting our work!

When our Executive Director found a litter of days-old kittens while working on a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) project, he was able to trap them and their mom and brought the whole family inside to help the kittens grow up safe and healthy. As soon as they weaned, mom got spayed and returned to her home, and babies came to our Adoption Center. As soon as these little ones got spayed and neutered, they got adopted — before we could even share that they were ready to find homes! Congrats to the dating kittens — Cupid, Tinder, Grindr, Bumble, and Harmony — on finding love so fast!

Former Forgotten Kitten pair Buzz and Comet hid a lot at first at Cat Town, but we made sure to keep them together so that Comet could help his shyer brother make progress. We just got this update from their adopters: “When we visited Cat Town, we didn’t see them interact at all — we wondered, were they really close? Now, at home we can really see their bond. Buzz often cozies up close to Comet, and they are really good playmates. They love chasing each other around the room, especially late at night!”

Monsieur Full Moon was left abandoned at his guardian's apartment building, then temporarily housed until he got to the city shelter, and eventually made it into our care. Along his way to Cat Town this shy boy was almost always hiding, and developed a habit of overgrooming himself. Fortunately, his foster helped him feel safe, and together with our team, helped him get on track with his overgrooming, too. Now he's adopted, and thriving in his new home!

Forest (left) and Hunter (right) were Forgotten Kittens who tried to bolt when shelter volunteers approached their cages, so we brought them to Cat Town to remove cage-stress from the equation. Here, they started to learn from our volunteers that humans are A-OK, and their progress continued when they got to meet confident cats as role models! While Forest was protective of her friend, and would protectively swat away anyone who tried to pet either of them, playtime became a surefire way to win her over. Hunter quickly learned that petting was awesome, and sought out human affection regularly. The girls got adopted by a couple who are experienced with shy cats, and they’re helping them continue to progress, at their pace, in their new home. The pair is doing wonderfully!

Layla was brought to the shelter with a request to euthanize her due to her medical needs, but of course, that didn’t happen. Instead, our friends at Oakland Animal Services let us know that this FIV+, asthmatic gal needed support! We got her into foster care, where she quickly charmed her caretaker, and the rest is history.

When four cats were found abandoned in an RV, our friends at PALS East Bay stepped in, and got them to safety. People had been pouring in food through an open window since November, and the group had become fearful of humans in that time. Since they were so fearful in the shelter, we took them into foster care so they could have a quiet, stable environment to find their bearings again. After a few months, the first pair, Prince and Jewel, got adopted by a couple with the knowledge and patience to continue to work with these two scared cats. The duo is making slow but steady progress, and recently surprised their adopters by sleeping in their bed with them.

It truly takes a community to make our work possible. Thank you again for making adoptions like these possible every single month!
