January 2022 Adoptions

We’re starting the year off strong, thanks to people like you believing that cats who struggle in a shelter cage can still make incredible companions, if given the chance. You help our cats find a place where they can feel safe — whether it’s in a foster home or at our Adoption Center — and that feeling of security allows them to show everyone how wonderful they truly are.

Shy, stressed, and scared cats can transform from hiding and being shut down to playing and cuddling with confidence, given the right environment and enough time and care. They give their hearts freely to patient volunteers who work with them, and eventually to their adopters as well. Sick cats can heal, and blossom before our eyes into vibrant friends. Little Forgotten Kittens can find courage and bravery, digging deep down within themselves with our encouragement. They can trust people to be kind for the first time in their lives — and for the rest of their days.

You make it possible for our cats to find loving homes. Here are some of the cats you helped in January!

Everett (above) and Demi (below) had been trapped and fixed after living on the streets, but were shy and avoidant of people. After spending months in a shelter cage with not much progress, we brought them to our Adoption Center, where they could let their guards down. With a couple more months of dedication and TLC, this pair finally learned to trust us — and that progress continued with their adopters in their new home! After just one week, we got an update: Everett loves to cuddle. Demi is still shy, but loves to be pet in her safe spot under the bed. Demi and Everett grow braver every day, and their patient adopters celebrate each little milestone.

Tina and Fey came into our care as hissy, scared kittens — and they needed treatment for a respiratory infection. It didn’t take long for volunteers to work their magic, and these girls soon began to seek out pets — which was all it took for their adopters to fall head over heels. In their new home, they love to explore and lounge on their enormous cat tree in between snuggle sessions.

Last summer Princess Di was found as a stray young mom with kittens, who all quickly found homes of their own at the Oakland city shelter. When the shelter asked us to help her, we didn’t hesitate to bring her to our Adoption Center, where she quickly became a favorite for volunteers and guests alike. Her adopter let us know, “Princess Di (now named Baby) is doing so well in her new home. I love her so so much. She’s eating and sleeping well, and loves looking out at the skyline.”

Esmee was found in an airport parking lot, with itchy skin and a painful urinary tract infection. We got her the emergency medical care she needed, and a foster who kept careful watch on her while nursing her back to health. Seeing her transform into a healthy young cat with a sweet-as-pie disposition was enough to convince her fosters that they simply couldn’t let her go. They adopted her, and shower her daily with the affection she deserves.

Seniors Flare and Fleur were stressed by the other animals in their life, and needed a soft place to land. Our foster program was the perfect fit. These gorgeous girls quickly made themselves at home, showing off their affectionate ways, and it wasn’t long before they got adopted. Now they’ve got a quiet home of their own, where their new family tells us, “They’re settling in beautifully — eating well, playing sometimes, napping nonstop. Fleur is doing her best to live in Her Spot™️ on the couch, and Flare is doing her best to live on our laps.”
