Today marks the fourth anniversary of opening our cage-free Adoption Center here in Oakland. This space has has made a significant impact for Oakland’s vulnerable shelter cats.
To commemorate the occasion, we’re highlighting four things we’re proud to have accomplished since our Adoption Center doors first opened on October 25th, 2014.
One of the last things my brother Eric shared with his whole family before he passed was an extended ride around the Bay Area in a Zeppelin. 6 1/2 years later, a few months after my 17 year old cat Shadow crossed over, we heard of a foster in need. Already familiar with Cat Town and not yet ready for a new cat, this cat's need for a safe place seemed too important to pass up.
Mae L. is a rock star volunteer who always steps up wherever needed. Not only does she train our volunteers to socialize our hardest to place cats, she’s also an Adoption Center counselor connecting cats and families. And when odds and ends come up, Mae is always there to help with painting projects, medical tasks, and even recently caring for special-needs cat Didi while her foster was out of town .
