Our summer kicked off with a bang as we sent 26 cats home in the month of June. We were especially excited to see Monk adopted by his foster parents (#FosterFail!), and Genevieve, one of our long term cats, found her match, too!
KITTEN WIRE: MEET TIGER AND FAWN
OAKLAND — "Bolty." "Terrified." "Hissing and kicking."
That's how volunteers and staff at the Oakland Animal Services described a pair of kittens who landed in shelter cages during last year's kitten season.
"FKP material?" a kennel note read.
Volunteer of the Month: Kelda M.
June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month, so we’re turning the spotlight on volunteer Kelda M., who's done lots of fostering for Cat Town, and is also part of the amazing Cat Crew at Oakland Animal Services. We're so grateful to her for everything she does for both organizations and the Oakland cat community as a whole—we even named a former Cat Town cat after her! So, without further ado, meet all-star Cat Town volunteer Kelda!
From Semi-feral to Super Friend: Candice and Clayton
In late August of 2017, I took a trip to Cat Town. I had planned on grabbing a latte and playing with the cats, but all of that changed when I met Clayton Purrshaw (FKA Guy). Once I saw him I immediately thought "that's my cat". He was playfully chasing a string toy and sliding all over the floor. When I followed him into the quiet room, he placed his head into my palm and let me scratch his ears until he fell asleep. That moment is what sealed the deal for me. By mid-morning he was on his way home with me to begin our new life together.
