From Semi-feral to Super Friend: Candice and Clayton
In late August of 2017, I took a trip to Cat Town. I had planned on grabbing a latte and playing with the cats, but all of that changed when I met Clayton Purrshaw (FKA Guy). Once I saw him I immediately thought "that's my cat". He was playfully chasing a string toy and sliding all over the floor. When I followed him into the quiet room, he placed his head into my palm and let me scratch his ears until he fell asleep. That moment is what sealed the deal for me. By mid-morning he was on his way home with me to begin our new life together.

May 2018 Adoptions
May was full of memorable adoptions. Your support helped us find loving homes for senior cats like Robin, injured cats like Huey, and sick cats like Juniper, just to name a few.

Thank You for Helping Cats Like Polly
When we brought Polly to our cage-free Adoption Center, I watched her make biscuits with her oversized paws and show off her gentle personality. At Cat Town, we explained to visitors that FIV is typically symptom-free for many years, and while untreatable, doesn’t spread as easily as the name implies. Best of all, Polly was able to show hundreds of people that her FIV status wasn’t a danger to other cats by safely grooming, playing, and sleeping with her feline companions at our Adoption Center.

Helping Cats Like Sammy is Why I Volunteer
During my weekly volunteer shift at Cat Town, I made sure to sit with 8-year-old Sammy so I could hear his squeaky meow. When I petted him, he’d make biscuits and chirp to himself. I got in all the snuggles I could, knowing Sammy would soon charm someone into taking him home. Happily, I was right!

KITTEN WIRE: TAKING A CHANCE ON NATALIE
OAKLAND — When a father-son pair began their search for a new feline companion, they scrolled through the faces on Cat Town's adoption gallery, and found themselves drawn in by a brown tabby.
"Her eyes in the photo of her that was uploaded immediately caught our attention," said 18-year-old Blue. "They were gentle and inviting, almost hopeful, begging to find a home."

Volunteer of the Month: Shanti P.
Cat Town has an incredible team of dedicated volunteers, many of whom go above and beyond just a weekly shift. One such volunteer is Shanti P., who volunteers in our adoption center, as well as helps with the Forgotten Kitten Project and the recently launched case manager program, which offers advice and support to recent adopters of cats who may need a little more time to adjust to a new home. Shanti has also fostered several cats for Cat Town, and as a registered veterinary technician she’s been able to foster difficult medical cases.
I talked with Shanti about her recent Cat Town foster fail with Huey and why special needs cats like him make for extra special companions.
