May 2024 Adoptions

At Cat Town, we know our cats are top-tier because we get to see each one’s unique charm and needs. As we give them time to feel safe, daily medication to feel happy and healthy, or simply play with them to bring out their silliness, we’re always excited to note what makes their personalities special, and always excited to find adopters who can compliment these unique personalities and help these cats thrive.

In May, we celebrated 34 adoptions, bringing our total to 133 adoptions this year. These numbers prove that all cats of different ages, needs, and personalities are all highly adoptable, and remind us that each and every adoption not only makes a difference in these cats’ lives, but also in the homes they are lovingly welcomed into.

As we prepare for the busy kitten season ahead, we want to thank you, our valued supporter, for helping us ensure that every cat, no matter how overlooked, gets their chance to find a loving home. Last month, we asked you to become monthly donors as part of a $20,000 double match challenge. Over 80 members of our community stepped up and helped make this challenge a success, further ensuring top-tier care for our cats and helping them find loving homes.

We’re deeply committed to and proud of the work that we do, and are immensely grateful that we have you in our corner believing in us, and our cats. Thank you for celebrating our May adoptions with us!

At 12 years old, Vera is a testament to resilience, and a firm reminder that cats of all ages can find loving homes. The timid yet sweet old lady first went into a loving foster home, where she mostly hid under beds, but got daily exercise playing from her hiding spot. As her confidence grew, she moved toward pets and food, and warmed up to her fosters’ affection. Our fosters looked after her carefully when she experienced kidney issues and unexplained bloating, and Vera’s new confident spirit remained unbroken despite these challenges. Vera eventually came to our Adoption Center for more continual monitoring of her chronic health symptoms, and with regular vet visits and love from volunteers and attentive staff, Vera’s health began to improve, and her confidence and playfulness blossomed. We’re grateful to Vera’s adopter, who is committed to giving Vera the ongoing care and medical treatments she needs to stay happy and healthy, and tells us that Vera is growing bolder and more affectionate each day.

Koi was brought to a Solano shelter with a group of 5 other kittens when her caregiver, overwhelmed with too many animals, could no longer take care of them. At 5 months old, the tortie point Siamese had a large ulcer behind her left eye, possible exposure to FeLV, and giardia. She needed careful monitoring in the safety and comfort of our Adoption Center Studios. Once cleared of health concerns, Koi went to a foster home to relax before her eye surgery appointment and receive the care and cozy environment she needed for her post-surgery recovery. In another “foster-to-family” situation, Koi’s foster told us they had fallen in love with her, along with the two other kittens they had fostered with her, and wanted to adopt them all. From the joyful updates and photos the fosters send us, we have no doubt that all three kittens will have the happiest lives with their new guardians!

As an older cat in a shelter cage, surrounded by loud noises and unusual smells, 10-year-old Blackberry understandably sought refuge from the commotion hiding in the back of her cage. We knew she needed a safe place where she could let her shyness and fearfulness melt away, and placed her in our foster program. Although timid upon first arriving at her foster home, Blackberry quickly learned to adapt to her new surroundings, and boldly sought affection and companionship from her humans. In a delightful turn of events, Blackberry’s foster joined our “Foster-turned-family” club and decided to adopt her! Her adopter tells us that despite the senior girl’s age, Blackberry happily shows off her kitten-like energy getting zoomies and vocalizing her joy.

Nymeria arrived at the city shelter as an 8-month-old scared stray who displayed fearful hissing, but occasionally timid playing, during her time in her shelter cage. Concerned that others would label her as unadoptable due to her behavior, we placed her into our Forgotten Kitten Project. In her Studio at our Adoption Center, she slowly learned to play with and trust the staff and volunteers who interacted with her. When we noticed Nymeria experiencing head tremors and wobbliness, we brought her to a neurologist and learned her symptoms were likely due to a past trauma, and confirmed that she was in no danger or pain. Her cuddly personality began to shine so brightly that she received a long list of potential adopters wanting to adopt her! In her new home, her adopter tells: “She is so energetic and a trouble maker! We’re excited to have her completely adjusted. Every day is a new stride with her.”

An extremely shy stray brought to the city shelter, Hibiscus needed quiet and patient care before she could blossom like the flower that was her namesake. At her foster home, and then at the Adoption Center, the 9-year-old gray tabby needed about 45 minutes with each visitor before she could relax and feel safe to eat. Adding to her challenges, Hibiscus was diagnosed with dental disease and hyperthyroidism, and needed daily medications. Despite the great deal of time and care required, one particular volunteer, Ginger, dedicated hours every week gently nurturing Hibiscus’s bravery, trust, and affection. When Hibiscus became confident enough to purr, roll over, and literally drool with joy when her visitors pet her, we knew she was ready to transition to a home. We’re extremely grateful for the immense love, care, and affection Hibiscus’ new guardian is giving her, and it warmed our hearts to hear they’ve renamed Hibiscus “Ginger” in honor of the pivotal role this volunteer played in Hibiscus’ incredible transformation.

From everyone at Cat Town, thank you for helping these cats, and so many others!
