May 2023 Adoptions

Each cat that comes to Cat Town has their own personality, and their own unique needs — they may require months of patience to let their guard down, daily medication, or maybe just someone to help them unleash their silly side through plenty of playtime. The nice thing is, for every cat waiting to meet someone who’ll understand them, there’s a person hoping for a little friend to love unconditionally. Every situation is special, so every match we make creates a one-of-a-kind family!

We had 38 adoptions in May, adding up to 186 adoptions so far this year. As we reflect on the lives changed last month, we can’t help but look ahead to kitten season, and the surge of support it takes to get through this busy time every year. We’re geared up to help as many cats as we can, because we know what a difference even a single life can make.

Thank you for joining us on this journey to help every overlooked cat get the support they need to find a home! We’re proud to do this work, and grateful to you for seeing the meaning behind each cat we help.

Ellie and Riley arrived at the shelter as nervous, wide-eyed youngsters who had never learned to trust people. Typically, under-socialized kittens like them would not have options for adoption once they arrive at the shelter — so we brought them into our Forgotten Kitten Project, and our volunteers set to work helping them learn that people can be friends. With patience and positive reinforcement, they made breakthrough after breakthrough, and are continuing to blossom in their home, thanks to a caring adopter who’s helping them feel safe and loved.

When Cameron arrived in our care, he couldn’t stop making biscuits. However, his health was off — this little cat was skinny and under the weather. We got him to the vet, and learned he had a urinary tract infection. With a special diet and antibiotics, he started to feel better, and gained two pounds as his appetite returned. His adopters tell us, “He’s a joy to have, and such a sweet, talkative, and cuddly little guy!”

Moko was used to being the only cat in his home — so his shelter cage, surrounded by other cats, had him stressed and angry. He’d hiss, growl, nip and swipe at shelter volunteers who tried to visit with him. We got Moko into a foster home to help him decompress, where it didn’t take long for him to win over his fosters with his laid-back personality and become an official member of the family!

At 15 years old, Grape had a host of medical needs — including a large cyst on her back, stage 2 kidney disease, a heart murmur, constipation, and arthritis. As we got her health under control, she became more chatty, mobile, flexible, and eager to play. Her fosters fell in love, and couldn't let her go!

When we met Caspian at the shelter, he was absolutely over it, hissing and growling from his shelter cage. We saw a sweet boy hiding under all that stress, and thought he’d be happier in a foster home — so that’s where we took him. Just two days later, his foster had major breakthroughs, including purring, headbutts, and biscuits! He got adopted just a few short weeks later to someone who’ll give him patience as he settles into his new home.

Sweet, shy Alfred came to the shelter as a stray in rough shape. His coat was dirty due to dental pain that made it difficult to groom. He also had stage 1 kidney disease and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), so would need extra time to get well. Once in foster care, we got his rotten teeth extracted, and his kidney disease under control. In that time, Alfred worked his magic on his fosters, who decided to welcome him into their family. They tell us, “Alfred is doing great, and we are so happy to have him.”
