March 2022 Adoptions

The days are getting longer and warmer, and as we welcome spring with open arms, we also celebrate plenty of adoptions! In March, 25 cats with nowhere to go but Cat Town found great homes — including seniors, scared kittens, sick cats, and more. Your support means that we could help cats like Emmett and Pumpkin, who spent more than 340 days in our care, as well as cats like Fae and Wendigo, who were with us for less than 2 weeks before stealing someone’s heart.

Thank you for showing these overlooked cats that someone out there has their back. People like you, who believe in our work, make it possible for these cats to bring love and joy to families all over the Bay Area. We’re so grateful you gave them that chance!

Bali (top) started out as a scared older kitten at Oakland Animal Services, where she made a lot of progress until volunteers there noted she was getting frustrated in her cage. We brought her to our Adoption Center for further socialization — where she met Ceres! Originally a friendly colony cat, Ceres (bottom) took some time to shake off his nerves at our Adoption Center before revealing his sweet side. Now he and Bali help one another feel braver day by day in their new home. Their adopter reports, “They are almost inseparable, and will roam around the space and cuddle together every day.”

Chattanooga was a stray who was adopted then returned with reports of biting and breaking skin. He made his way to Cat Town, and we determined that he had painful osteoarthrosis in his hips, and started him on pain management. When his pain disappeared, the Noog’s biting became ancient history, too! His adopters are head over heels, saying, “We love having Chattanooga in our home! He's been super, super friendly. He loves exploring all the nooks and crannies of the apartment, and he and our older cat, Gary, are getting along well.”

Shy Troy has FIV, so he needed an understanding guardian who could keep a careful watch on his health and stay patient as he built up trust in a new environment. After two months in our care, Troy was feeling bold enough to show off just how sweet he could be, and got adopted. His new family tells us, “Troy gets braver every day! We had no idea that he would be such a snuggle buddy. He loves getting hugs and scratches, and especially gets excited to be brushed. He snuggled right up to my son and they took a nap together. He still has moments where he thinks the worst and runs or hides, but is learning to trust us.”

Last spring, Pumpkin (right) and Emmett (left) came to the shelter from a home overcrowded with animals. Pumpkin had diarrhea, and was shut down and frozen. Emmett had a skin flare up from flea allergies, a tattered ear, a bad upper respiratory infection, and low spirits — but the two boys gave each other comfort while we helped them recover. Emmett also needed most of his teeth extracted, and we continue to support his dental care, while they enjoy life in their new home with a patient, experienced adopter!

Tahoe (left) and Sierra (right) were brought to the shelter as stray older kittens with ringworm. Sierra was pettable, but frozen — while Tahoe was super shy and evasive. This timid bonded pair needed a quiet environment where they could feel safe enough to let their guard down, so we took them to a foster home. They quickly became best friends with the resident cat, and the foster parents fell in love. It’s a foster fail — our favorite outcome!

Young Frankfurt was stressed in his shelter cage, keeping his head down and hissing when approached. The volunteers at Oakland Animal Services helped this nervous fella feel safe until we could get him into a foster home, where his adorable personality really started to shine! Frankfurt got adopted by a first-time cat guardian who reports this sweet boy is doing well in his new home.
