August 2023 Adoptions

We had another great month in August, made possible by our community’s support! Last month we found homes for 40 cats, including:

  • 14 scared kittens,

  • 7 sick and injured cats,

  • 9 stressed cats, and

  • 4 senior cats.

When these cats needed a soft blanket to hide under or an irresistible treat to help them take their first small step toward trust, our community made sure we had those supplies. When they needed medical care for upper respiratory infections, rotten teeth, contagious parasites, and other afflictions, our community helped us get them the support they needed to heal. Whether it was a quiet foster home or observing a confident cat role model at our Adoption Center, we could meet every cat where they were, and help them find the courage inside themselves to let their guards down.

We can’t do this work alone — and thankfully, we don’t have to! We’re so grateful to you for being with us, every step of the way.

Marzipan had an uncertain background, and was so scared at the shelter that we thought she might be feral. We wanted to give her every chance we could, so we took her in for our three-week Feral or Fearful evaluation. After her assessment period, we decided she’d thrive in foster care — and we were right! Her foster told us she was “the most chill cat ever” and loved to “jump, leap, and spin” after her toys. Her adopter tells us that “Marcy” has taken over their phone’s photo library. We’re so happy for Marzipan and her new family!

Shy little Biscuits and Gravy had been at the shelter for nearly 2 months with no interest from adopters, but got a chance to learn from more confident kittens — Pico and Salsa Verde — at our Adoption Center. It didn’t take long for them to go from hiding all day to sweetly playing with guests. This pair got adopted and went home in just 8 days!

Zee and Niobe came into our care with two of their siblings because the shelter was simply too full. However, we quickly noticed that they weren’t gaining weight the way kittens should. Their whole litter had persistent diarrhea and weight loss, so we got them tested — and the results came in positive for Giardia, an intestinal parasite. It took multiple treatments to get them well again, but the entire time, these orange babies were sweet as could be. They went home to a smitten family with two kids, a senior cat, and an iguana to be their new friends!

After arriving at the shelter as a stray, 12-year-old Vincent Valentine would hiss, growl, and hide — so we got him into a foster home to help him de-stress. Over the course of nine months, we learned he had a severe food allergy, as well as a habit of nightly yowling — in other words, a perfect Cat Town cat! Imagine our delight when his adopter told us they wanted to make it a forever deal. They let us know, “He's a really funny, weird guy who makes me laugh every day, which is all I could ever ask of a cat. At night, he serenades me, and fortunately for both of us, I find his yodeling adorable.” We’re thrilled this quirky lovebug found his perfect match!

Twelve-year-old Cleo was used to living in a loving home — but when her guardian became too ill to care for her, they made the difficult decision to surrender her. We placed her in a foster home, and she quickly got to work showing off her sweet personality and accepting belly rubs. When her attentive foster guardian reported that her appetite was down and she had started throwing up blood, we got her to the emergency vet, where she was diagnosed with severe dental disease and a heart murmur. She would need to gain weight before she’d be healthy enough to have her painful teeth removed. Somewhere between carting Cleo to and from the vet, and helping her recover after having her dental surgery, her foster realized that they could not let her go. Turns out Cleo was home all along!
