August 2020 Adoptions

There’s nothing like making the perfect match, and knowing that a cat whose well-being we poured our hearts into will be loved forever. In August we had 29 cats go to great homes, making it a busy, but rewarding month!

Shitake came to us as a scared older kitten, but with patience and kindness from our volunteers, blossomed into a total sweetheart. He and his new sister, Mystic, were each the odd one out in their litters, but struck gold with a gentle, patient adopter who knew they would benefit from having another cat in their lives. Now they’re both getting spoiled, in the very best way possible. While Mystic was adopted in July, Shitake joined the family in August, the same day we cleared him to go home. He’s already become a total “mama’s boy” and the two kittens get along wonderfully!

When Annapurna and Everest’s original family lost their home, the pair was surrendered to the Oakland shelter — and we took them to make sure they got to stay together. Their adopter was looking for a sweet bonded pair, and when he learned from us that our cats had been flying off the shelves, he set multiple alarms to get to our Adoption Center before we opened, having got off work at 3am. He even cancelled his vacation plans so he could bring this duo home for his birthday instead. Lucky cats!

After briefly meeting 11-year-old Zarah by chance, her adopter couldn’t stop thinking about her, and came back to make it official. She gushed, “I was so excited I couldn’t sleep last night until 3am!”

After being turned away at another rescue, Paccheri was brought to the Oakland shelter in active labor with kittens, and with a ruptured eye. The shelter performed eye removal surgery and got her stabilized, then, we put her into a trusted foster home where we knew she’d get tons of TLC. She transformed from terrified and hurting into a little ball of love.

Alfredo arrived at the Hayward shelter with scabies, lacerations on his face, and a swollen joint on his left forelimb. He was foster #18 for the veteran volunteers who helped us nurse him back to health, and as luck has it, he’s the cat who finally stole their hearts! They fell in love with his goofy personality and made it official!
