Sweet, eight-year-old Lily was Cat Town's first foster and first adoption!

About Us

Cat Town is a 501(c)(3) cat rescue organization formed by long-time volunteers of Oakland Animal Services (OAS), the Oakland municipal shelter. We are independent of OAS but operate in partnership with them.

Our mission is to find great homes for the cats and kittens who are unable to handle the stress of the shelter environment and are most likely to be euthanized as a result.

We focus on cats and kittens who are sick or have special needs, senior cats, kittens who are older and more challenging to socialize, and cats who are too shy or stressed to appear adoptable in a shelter cage. These aren't difficult cats, just cats who are having a normal reaction to what is likely to be the most stressful experience of their lives.

We get these vulnerable cats and kittens into loving foster homes where they can relax. Potential adopters meet our cats in their foster home, where they can show their true personalities.

It is pure joy to help these cats. We hope you will join us!

Cat Town is a team effort to help cats in Oakland. Please join us by adopting or fostering our available cats, volunteering, donating, or following us on Facebook.
